Here are our real weddings from the weekend of August 21st, 22nd, and 23rd 2009 – enjoy!
Lara and Michael, 8/22/2009 – Chesapeake Bay Beach Club, Stevensville, MD
DJ: Evan Reitmeyer
The setting: One of our very favorite wedding venues, the Tavern Ballroom at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club.
The first dance: They didn’t have one! The bride and groom were very non-traditional, and opted to give the official “first dance” to the bride’s parents, who never had one at their wedding. It was cute!
The playlist: Amazing. Michael and Lara put a lot of work into the list, and it showed. Tons of indie music and oldies had me digging in the crates for their requests, and I didn’t play a single song not on their list except for two songs between the cocktail hour list and the dinner list. Here’s a taste: Belle & Sebastian, Lykke Li, Pulp, Ladytron, Pixies, Depeche Mode, LCD Soundsystem… Had me mixing the entire night.
The guests: Definitely a mix of young and old, and a heavy contingent of friends from Maryland and New York, where the bride and groom live.
Outstanding vendors: Teresa Hunter and her staff at the Beach Club were, as always, totally on point and didn’t miss a beat. Plus, I got to catch up with one of my favorite wedding friends, photographer Amy Deputy!

Julia and Adam, 8/22/2009 – Halcyon House, Georgetown, Washington, DC
DJ: Jeff Brown
The setting: The unique, three-level Halcyon House easily accommodated the wedding, even when rain forced the ceremony inside!
The first dance: “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz
The music: A mix of oldies and classics, rock and top 40 — the guests danced before dinner and throughout the night, kicking things off with a fun Hora and ending with a rousing rendition of “Shout.”
A touching moment: There were six toasts in all, a highlight of which was the best man’s very heartfelt comments.
A beautiful tradition: The groom’s grandfather did a very nice blessing of the Challah.
Bia and Steve, 8/22/2009 – American Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore, MD
DJ: Anthony Simpson
The setting: Always unique, the American Visionary Art Museum was one-of-a-kind and offered its new exhibits for guests to visit throughout the wedding.
The first dance: “Do You Remember” by Jack Johnson
The food: A delicious Mongolian barbecue buffer, offering full grills stocked with a variety of meats and seafood. It was definitely a hit with the guests!
The music: Lots of Motown, 90s and a few current hip hop hits.
A special moment: The Hora was a lot of fun — the guests really got into it and it was a pleasure to watch!
Outstanding vendors: Cate Buscher of Plan It Perfect Events did a wonderful job of pulling everything together, and I had a great time working with wedding photographers Maria Vicencio and Drew Miller!
I have visited the American Visionary Art Museum several times and it is an awesome venue.
