Real Wedding Wednesday – November 14th-15th, 2009

November 25th, 2009 No comments

We had a great time the weekend of November 14th and 15th, 2009 — here’s a rundown of the weddings we performed!

Diane and Justin, 11/14/09 – Dominion Valley Country Club, Haymarket, VA

DJ: Jeff Brown

The setting: With classic appointments and walls of windows, the Dominion Valley Country Club was absolutely gorgeous.

The first dance: “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys

A sentimental moment: The couple had an anniversary dance instead of a bouquet toss, and the last couple dancing had been married 49 years!

A fun surprise: The bride’s sisters surprised her with a speech including the song “Sisters” by Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen from the movie “White Christmas.”

A unique touch: The last song was Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York,” during which the bride, bridesmaids and other female guests sang along and formed a can-can line!

Ellen and Bryan, 11/14/09 – Congressional Country Club, Bethesda, MD

DJ: Soor Kothari

The setting: The timeless ballroom at Congressional Country Club offered stunning golf course views, as well as a granite patio area.

The first dance: “Always on My Mind” by Elvis Presley

The music: Lots of elegant tunes, including swing music and Rat Pack favorites, complemented the elegance of the wedding.

A touching moment: The grandparents of the bride shared a special dance to Rod Stewart’s “Forever Young.”

Andrea and Mike, 11/14/09 – Engineer’s Club, Baltimore, MD

DJ: Anthony Simpson

The setting: The opulent Engineer’s Club, where we are privileged to perform often, was beautiful as always and accented with the couple’s peacock-themed decor.

The first dance: “Steady as We Go” by Dave Matthews

The music: The bride and groom knew their guests’ musical tastes well, as almost every guest request was already on their “must-play” list!  Lots of current dance hits for the very high-energy crowd!

A funny moment: The couple requested that several specific songs be played for their toasts — the father of the bride was accompanied by the instrumental version of Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky,” the maid of honor was accompanied by “You’re the Best Around” from The Karate Kid movie, and the best man was accompanied by “Payback” by James Bron.

An unexpected surprise: The last dance of the night, “Ignition (Remix)” by R. Kelly — a request from the bride and groom — turned out to be the most popular song of the evening!

Amber and Chris, 11/14/09 – Overhills Mansion, Catonsville, MD

DJ: Evan Reitmeyer

The setting: A historic mansion nestled in the hills outside Baltimore, MD.

The first dance: “At Last” by Celine Dion

The music: A wide variety of music, from classic rock to hip-hop to country, kept the guests grooving on the dance floor.

An unexpected surprise: The matron of honor, who was 9 months pregnant and due on the wedding day, went into labor once dancing started and left straight for the hospital!

Outstanding vendors: Brandi and the staff at Overhills did a great job with the food, and photographer and old pal Eric Wuechner was great to hang out with!

Erica and Greg, 11/15/09 – Overhills Mansion, Catonsville, MD

DJ: Anthony Simpson

The setting: The charming Overhills Mansion, with its original fruitwood and teak paneling, was very intimate.

The first dance: “Sea of Love” by Cat Power

The music: The couple had very eclectic music tastes and provided a really enjoyable list of requests — e everything from funk to new wave to old school hip hop.  The guests loved it!

A unique moment:  The groom plays in a band called The Solar Temple Suicides, and provided a CD of one of their songs to be played during dinner.

A funny moment: Because the bride and groom were big fans of the Muppets, many guests jokingly requested songs from Sesame Street throughout the knight — little did they know that the groom and his mother had chosen the Kermit the Frog and Deborah Harry duet version of “The Rainbow Connection” as their mother/son dance!

Real Wedding Wednesday – November 7th-8th, 2009

November 18th, 2009 No comments

It’s Real Wedding Wednesday again!  Here are our recaps for the weddings on November 7th and 8th, 2009!

Candace and Mike, 11/7/09 – Westfields Marriott, Chantilly, VA

DJ: David Johnson

The setting: Elegantly appointed and spacious, the Marriott’s ballroom provided a very traditional and warm site for the wedding.

The first dance: “When You Say Nothing at All” by Allison Krauss

The music: Lots of oldies, Motown, pop and hip hop — a very fun mix!

A unique touch: The groom provided a custom mix for the mother/son dance, starting with “She’s Got a Way” by Billy Joel and fading into “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.  Lots of guests joined in and it was a very fun, upbeat ending to the traditional dance!

A fun moment: The couple requested “Dirty Water” by Dropkick Murphys after their last dance, and the groom and his buddies enjoyed a big singalong!

Christina and Howard, 11/7/09 – Sheraton Washington North, Beltsville, MD

DJ: Soor Kothari

The setting: The spacious and bright ballroom at the Sheraton was personalized by the couple’s choice to name each of the tables after a favorite song rather than using traditional table numbers.

The first dance: “Faithfully” by Journey

The music: A fun, eclectic blend of disco, pop, Motown and oldies — the couples were also huge fans of Bruce Springsteen, Billy Idol and Elton John.

A funny moment: Everyone chimed in and sang along to the couple’s song choice of “Pretty Woman,” used in the garter toss.

Erika and Jamie, 11/7/09 – Woodend Sanctuary, Chevy Chase, MD

DJ: Michael Bell

The setting: The beautiful and natural Woodend Sanctuary was really set off by the couple’s fall-themed flowers in autumnal colors.

The first dance: “La Vie En Rose” by Louis Armstrong

A touching moment: The bride’s male cousin, who served as “Man of Honor,” sang a song he wrote especially for the bride and groom, accompanied by piano, during his toast.

Outstanding vendors: Coordinator Rebecca Dick of Wish Special Events was organized, professional and fun to work with.  Photographer Kate Headley was brilliant, as she always is!

Katherine and Andrew, 11/7/09 – Ostertag Vistas, Myersville, MD

DJ: Anthony Simpson

The setting: Ostertag Vistas’ converted barn, unique and rustic, was a beautiful and appropriate setting for a Renaissance-themed wedding!

The first dance: “Beauty and the Beast” from the Disney soundtrack

The music: The guests really kept the dance floor packed all night, dancing to songs from the 60s through the 90s.

A unique touch: Everything about this wedding was extraordinary, not the least of which being the Medieval theme!  The bride, groom and their entire wedding party, including both fathers, were dressed in full Renaissance Faire garb.  Many of the guests joined right in, including one guest dressed as a Friar and another decked out in full chain-mail!

Kristen and Ryan, 11/7/09 – Elkridge Furnace Inn, Elkridge, MD

DJ: Jeff Brown

The setting: The beautiful and timeless Elkridge Furnace Inn was very inviting.

The first dance: “Do You Remember” by Jack Johnson

The music: A mix of oldies, classics, party songs and current hits kept the dance floor full.

A unique touch: The bride and groom were very into music, and kept their requests centered around a chronological playlist — Rat Pack for cocktails, oldies for dinner, and more contemporary hits for later in the evening.

Outstanding vendors: Becky and her banquet staff from Elkridge Furnace Inn and photographer Ray Persinger were great!

Melissa and Josh, 11/8/09 – ThorpeWood Lodge, Thurmont, MD

DJ: David Johnson

The setting: The rustic, elegant atmosphere at ThorpeWood Lodge was perfect — the ceremony was held in a beautiful wooded locale, with cocktails, dinner and dancing inside the lodge

The first dance: “Thank You” by Chris Cornell

A funny moment: The mother of the groom asked to give a toast at the last minute, and during her remarks she presented a special gift to the bride — the groom’s “blankie” from when he was little!

Outstanding vendors: Mike and his team from Canapes Catering, Julie Parlaman of ThorpeWood, Perskie Photographics and Metzlers Florist were a wonderful team.

Where’d We Go?

It’s been almost a month since our last blog post, and you might be wondering where we went…  We’re here!  Jennifer and I welcomed the newest and smallest member of our family last month, and we decided to take a little break from our weekly posts to get settled in.  Alexander Nicholas Reitmeyer was born at 9:05pm on October 21st, and is a very cute (and very hungry) little boy.

Isn't he a cutie?

Don’t worry!  We’ll be posting all of the missing “real weddings” in the next week or two, so subscribe now and get them delivered!

Real Wedding Wednesday – October 31st, 2009

November 11th, 2009 No comments

Halloween was more beautiful than scary with the two weddings we deejayed on October 31st, 2009!  Recaps below:

Carla and Marc, 10/31/09 – Westin Hotel, Annapolis, MD

DJ: Jeff Brown

The setting: The dramatic Westin Annapolis, with its contemporary styling.

The first dance: “There is No Greater Love” by Amy Winehouse

An interesting detail: The bride and groom’s introductions were accompanied by the “Throne Room Ceremony” song from Star Wars.

A touching moment: The bride’s brother delivered a very heartfelt speech, which the bride (and everyone watching) obviously appreciated!

An unexpected surprise: The bride surprised the groom with a very unique cake by Duff Goldman (TV’s “Ace of Cakes”) — it was at least two feet high and a perfect model of the AT-AT Walker vehicle from Star Wars!

Sabine and Jeff, 10/31/09 – Peabody Library, Baltimore, MD

DJ: Anthony Simpson

The setting: The George Peabody Library is one of the most spectacular venues in Baltimore, with its soaring ceilings and classical embellishments.

The first dance: “Book of Love” by Peter Gabriel

The music: Lots of oldies, mixed with Latin music for the bride’s family and some current hits too.

A special tradition: The bride’s family was from Colombia, and enjoyed a special dance called “El Camino de la Vida” by Nueva Generacion.

A touching moment: The bride shared a special dance with her uncle to Heartland’s “I Loved Her First,” and both were clearly very moved.  It was beautiful to watch.

An unexpected surprise: The groom took the microphone and made a speech to the guests, during which he thanked them for being there for his special day — then announced that he wanted to recognize a special day for someone else: his sister, who was celebrating her birthday.  Everyone then sang along to “Happy Birthday!”

Real Wedding Wednesday – October 23rd-24th, 2009

November 4th, 2009 No comments

This weekend’s weddings were both beautiful and fun.  Read our recaps of our weddings performed on October 23rd and 24th below.

Monica and Jefferson, 10/23/09 – Brookside Gardens, Wheaton, MD

DJ: Michael Bell

The setting: The gorgeous Brookside Gardens, with its spectacular landscaping that went on for acres — the ceremony was held outside in the Fragrance Garden and couldn’t have been any more beautiful.

The first dance: “You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson

The music: Lots of Latin music — salsa and merengue — to honor the bride’s Colombian heritage, as well as 80s hits.

A unique touch: Orange was the primary color used in the wedding and was reflected in the stunning wildflower bouquets and paper lanterns.

A special moment: Seven of the couple’s friends read special blessings during the ceremony, making it even more personal and meaningful.

Lesley and Demetrio, 10/24/09 – Stone Manor Vineyard, Lovettsville, VA

DJ: Anthony Simpson

The setting: The warm, intimate Stone Manor Vineyard and Orchard provided an atmosphere of rustic elegance.

The first dance: “As Time Goes By” by Jimmy Durante

The music: Lots of classic vocalists and 80s dance hits — the guests responded with lots of energy and danced all night!

A fun moment: The best man and one of the groomsmen planned a very funny toast.  It was a complete surprise to the bride and groom, and a huge hit with everyone in attendance!

Valerie and Chris, 10/24/09 – Sequoia Restaurant, Washington, DC

DJ: Michael Bell

The setting: Sequoia Restaurant in Georgetown looked incredible, with blue feathered fiber optic chandeliers and contrasting orange flowers.

The first dance: “You are the Best Thing” by Ray Lamontagne

The food: The couple selected an incredible seasonal menu with lots of influences.

A fun moment: “Call to the Post” from the Kentucky Derby was played just before the introductions of the bride and groom, in honor of the groom’s Kentucky heritage.

Outstanding vendors: Gretchen Wade from Dragonfly Events did a wonderful job coordinating all of the evening’s events, and Annette Baudeloque of Classic Creations Photographer was also great!
