Even More Indie Wedding Song Ideas!

We’ve noticed a major uptick in people from all around the country searching for indie wedding songs and never the type to deny the whims of others, we’re here to offer even more indie wedding music ideas. You can see our previous posts on the subject here and here.

First, let’s share a few that were posted in a comment left by one groom who wanted to give us his actual indie wedding song picks:

Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
Camera Obscura – French Navy
Jens Lekman – Black Cab
Real Estate – Beach Comber
Department of Eagles – No One Does It
Neko Case – That Teenage Feeling
She & Him – Black Hole
Spoon – I Turn my Camera On
Hercules and Love Affair – Blind
Justice – DVNO
Cut Copy – Time Stands Still

All great choices, especially that Department of Eagles song!

Now, as previously stated, it’s awesome that more and more couples are choosing to set the tone of their wedding through highly personalized music choices and we hope that trend continues indefinitely BUT when it comes to indie wedding music, you have to be very careful not to alienate your guests by filling your playlist with unknown songs no one can dance to. This is why cocktail hour is the best place to put your favorite indie songs! Sure you can slip a few into the dancing portion of your reception but swanky indie tunes do best during cocktails or dinner when you are going more for atmosphere and feel than energy.

Let me stop blabbering and consult an expert, our own Anthony Simpson. “Indie music at weddings is a very slippery slope – if you use just enough of it in the right place(s), it can really set the tone and make for a memorable, unique wedding; if you use too much of it or have it be the focus of the dancing, most people will not dance and might even leave early!” Trust his opinion, he’s spun approximately 1 bazillion weddings (give or take) in his many years as a wedding DJ, the guy knows what he’s talking about.

Anyway, here are a few more indie wedding song ideas for your listening pleasure. Remember, this is your chance to get creative and include songs that may not seem “wedding-appropriate” but are awesome none-the-less. If you have any to add, please do so in the comments!

Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know
M83 – Midnight City
Holy Ghost! – Wait And See
Noah and the Whale – 5 Years’ Time
Lowen & Navarro – Baby It’s Cold Outside
The Magnetic Fields – Book of Love
Rogue Wave – I’ll Never Leave You
Kyle Andrews – I’m Comin 2 Get U
Trabant – The One
The Knife – Heartbeats
Over The Rhine – Trouble
Röyksopp – Happy Up Here
Hey Ya! – Sarah Blasko
Lisa Hannigan – What’ll I Do
Milagres – Glowing Mouth
House of Wolves – Ageless (I would love to see this used as a first dance song!)
The Antlers – Tongue Tied
Tom Vek – Someone Loves You
Superhuman Happiness – Oh, Tatiana
Austra – Shoot the Water
Sleeping States – Rivers
Best Coast – I Want To
The Maccabees – Precious Time
Flunk – See You

Is this song not absolutely chilling? I could listen to it all day long.

Looking for something a little more upbeat? Can’t beat Tom Vek!
