Birthplace/Hometown: Silver Spring, MD/Ellicott City, MD
Current residence: Arlington, VA
College attended: James Madison University
Fields of study: Photography and creative writing
When I'm not deejaying weddings, I can be found: Deejaying college nights and a trivia event at a local bar (mainly for fun!) and developing my skills at music production.
My other interests: All kinds of live music (I go to over 50 shows a year), football, poker, food and wine, art, photography and writing.
Favorite music artists: Wilco, The Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, The Talking Heads, Phish, Jay-Z, The Shins, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Flaming Lips, GirlTalk, The Bridge, Little Feat, Pretty Lights, Bruce Springsteen, Levon Helm, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, The Beatles, Bassnectar.
First dance songs I'm enjoying lately: "Waste" (Phish), "Danny's Song" (Kenny Loggins), "In the Colors" (Ben Harper), "Make You Feel My Love" (Adele), "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" (Talking Heads).
Causes I support: Ecological reform, breast cancer awareness, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Purple Heart, Kennedy Krieger Institute.
A quote I live by: "I made the firm conviction a long time ago that I would rather regret the things I had done instead of the things I had not." - Michael Caine
Best advice I ever received: "You should be a DJ!"
Seven words that describe me: Free, peaceful, reflective, happy, funky, grateful, adventurous.
Five prized possessions I couldn’t live without: My LP collection, a set of antique bookends from my great grandfather, my collection of concert posters and works of art made by friends, a set of journals and sketchbooks given to me by loved ones, and my Cutter and Buck watch that belonged to my best friend ever.
Something that no one would guess by looking at me: I once swam in the Atlantic Ocean, the Cacapon River, the Truckee River, Lake Tahoe and the Pacific Ocean, all within 10 days.
On being a wedding DJ: "I've always had an intense love for music, despite the fact that I haven't really learned to play an instrument well. I consider myself to be somewhat of a professional appreciator of music. Once I started to focus on deejaying weddings, I found my niche. Parties and other events were fun, but the emotional quality and sense of importance that a wedding brings changes the entire experience. I love creating an entirely unique celebration for each of my clients by highlighting parts of their personalities, rather than doing the same wedding hundreds of times. I have had over two dozen different jobs at this point in my life, and I have never enjoyed any as much as I enjoy being a DJ. I absolutely love what I do, for both myself and my clients. I decided a long time ago that I wanted to do something fun for a living, something that never made me feel like I was going to 'work', and something that was helpful to other people in some way. I believe I found that profession, years ago, with MyDeejay."
