Jennifer Reitmeyer, Co-Owner of MyDeejay

Jennifer, the president of MyDeejay, oversees all day-to-day operations of the company, including talent management, client service, marketing and public relations. (She’s also the person who matches you with an amazing DJ for your wedding!) Prior to forming MyDeejay, Jennifer worked in entertainment sales and marketing, catering sales and banquet management, and also worked as an independent wedding and corporate event planner.

Birthplace/Hometown:  Fort Huachuca, AZ/San Antonio, TX

Current residence:  Clarksville, MD

College attended:  Frostburg State University

Fields of study:  TV/radio production and creative writing

When I'm not operating MyDeejay, I can be found:  When am I not operating MyDeejay? But when I do get some free time, I spend it volunteering with children in foster care, mentoring teenage girls, re-learning guitar after almost 20 years, dreaming with my husband and partner, and raising two rambunctious, kind and awesome little boys.

My other interests:  Cooking, skating, photography, random art projects (dioramas rule), reading, spending way too much money on Etsy, wine (drinking it; I don’t pretend to know or care anything about it), tattoos as an art form.

First dance songs I'm enjoying lately:  "Life is Beautiful" (Keb Mo), "Such Great Heights" (Iron and Wine), "All You Need is Love" (Nada Surf), "Find Love" (Clem Snide), "The Luckiest" (Ben Folds).

Favorite music artists:  Jane's Addiction, The Clash, The Smiths, Sonic Youth, The Shins, Willie Nelson, Outkast, Johnny Cash, Jawbreaker, Elliott Smith, The Roots, Velvet Underground, Dragonette, A Tribe Called Quest.

Causes I support:  Voices for Children, CASA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Maryland, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Girls Inc.

A quote I live by:  “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." - Aesop, from The Lion and the Mouse

Best advice I ever received:  “When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead." (well, I and several million others received it, but it’s sound advice. Thanks, Barney Stinson!)

Seven words that describe me:  Humble, driven, sensitive, compassionate, honest, nurturing, silly.

Five prized possessions:  My “Ladies of the 80s” Barbie dolls (Joan Jett, Debbie Harry & Cyndi Lauper), my blond maple Ibanez guitar, my wedding band, a jade bowl that belonged to my mom, and the stack of half-finished photo albums I fully intend on completing for my kids someday.

Something that no one would guess by looking at me:  I’m freaking obsessed with the TV show “Oz.” We watch it pretty much every day in the office, so if you ever overhear shankings and gang activity when you call us, you’ll know why. I even have a full set of Oz character puppets on my desk that I made out of ball-point pens. (The Adebisi one is the best.)

On MyDeejay:  “I’ve worked in the wedding industry since 1997, doing everything from planning to catering to entertainment sales. Nothing has been more fulfilling, though, than creating and running this company with my husband and best friend, Evan. It’s been a fantastic adventure founding a business that not only represents who we are, but also provides the best possible experience for the couples who book us. To say I feel lucky would be a tremendous understatement.”
